Backup & restore
Four safety nets, only one of which needs you to do anything — and what to check before you trust any of them.
Your book lives on your device first. Everything here is about making sure that is not the only place it lives.
The four layers
| Needs an account? | You do anything? | |
|---|---|---|
| Local backup on the device | No | No |
| Businessly cloud backup | Yes | No |
| Google Drive backup | Google sign-in | No |
| A backup file you keep | No | Yes |
Local backup
Even with no account at all, Businessly keeps a fresh encrypted copy on the device itself. It covers a mistake or a reinstall — it does not cover a lost phone.
Cloud backup
Once signed in, your book is backed up to your account automatically. See Sync across devices.
Google Drive
Signing in with Google adds Back up to Google now and Restore from Google backup under Back up & restore, plus an automatic backup you can switch off.
A file you keep
Back up my data — Save a copy you can keep safe. This is the one that needs you, and it is the only one that survives losing access to your account.
The file saves, then Businessly offers to share it — WhatsApp it to yourself, mail it, put it in Drive.
The file simply lands in your Downloads folder. No share prompt appears — do not wait for one. Move it somewhere safe yourself.
Restoring
Restore from backup — Replace everything with a backup file.
With Google, more than one saved backup gets a chooser so you can pick which date to come back to. If a file is damaged or from a different app you get Couldn't read that backup file and nothing changes.
Backup health
Businessly watches its own backups. If a cloud backup has not succeeded in a while, or a Google permission lapsed, a card appears on Home with Export to Downloads as a one-tap way to get a copy out.
Moving to a new device
- Sign in on the new device with the same account.
- Your book syncs down.
- Or, with no account: restore your saved backup file.
Deleting everything
Delete all my data asks What would you like to remove? with two very different options:
- Remove from this phone only — your cloud backup survives, and Businessly backs up first
- Delete everything, everywhere — local, cloud and Drive. This cannot be undone.
If the safety backup fails first you are told Couldn't back up and can choose Wipe anyway — but read that twice before agreeing.
