Reminders & notifications

A daily nudge about what is due, in words you choose. Phone only — and this page is honest about what happens if you try it on a PC.

Not available on Windows

Reminders do not work on a PC. This is the important thing on this page, because the app does not currently tell you.

On Windows the whole screen works: Turn on reminders switches on, the Reminder time saves, every category toggles, and Send a test reminder now even reports that a test was sent. No notification will ever appear.

Notifications are a phone feature. Use them on your Android phone; on the PC, check To collect and Bills & rent yourself.

What it does on a phone

Reminders — Get notified about dues — works offline. When off it reads Off · tap to turn on.

Turn on reminders gives you A daily notification for what's due at a Reminder time you pick.

What the notification says, and where a tap goes

The title tells you what it is about, not your own shop name: "Installment due: Ahmed · Rs 12,500", "Rent due: Shop #2 · Rs 18,000", "Bill due: Electricity · Rs 4,200", or, when several fall on one day, "2 due today · Rs 30,500 to receive · Rs 4,200 to pay" (just "2 due · …" when one of them is already overdue). The monthly udhaar round reads "Udhaar to collect: 3 customers · Rs 83,600". The lines underneath give the detail. If you run more than one business, the shop's name is added as a last line so you know which book it belongs to (unless your own message already uses the shop-name chip).

Tapping a reminder opens the screen it is about: the customer's statement when it concerns one person, Bills & rent when several payments are due, and To collect for the udhaar round. A reminder scheduled by an earlier version of the app still opens Bills & rent, To collect or More (for the backup nudge). If a dialog is open when you tap, the app simply comes to the front so you do not lose what you were typing. If another screen is open (Settings, say), the customer's statement or To collect opens on top of it, and Back returns you to where you were; for Bills & rent or More the app simply comes to the front.

In your own words

Every category has an editable Message. Under it, Tap to add a detail that fills itself in: shows chips in plain words — Customer name, Amount due, Due date, Installment no., Shop name and so on. Tap one and the app drops the matching token (such as {name} or {amount}) where your cursor is; the app fills it in when the reminder fires. You can still type or edit the tokens by hand.

An example line below the chips shows the message with sample values and updates as you type, so you see exactly how it will read. Reset to default starts again.

Testing it

Send a test reminder now fires one immediately so you can confirm notifications are getting through.

Muting for a month

Some months you know rent is late and do not want chasing. Mute a reminder and it shows Reminders muted this month — tap to resume. It returns next cycle on its own.

They cost nothing

Reminders are local notifications — created on the device. No internet, no SMS charges, and nothing is sent to anyone. Messages to customers are a separate thing: see WhatsApp message templates.
