Recording what you give

A named list of who received what, kept through the year — including anything you gave before Ramadan, which counts against this year rather than getting lost.

Working out what you owe is half of it. The other half is keeping track of what you actually gave — which is where most handwritten records fall apart, because it goes out in pieces over weeks.

The giving list

Giving starts as Nothing given yet, with the hint Add names and amounts as you give.

Add giving records a label and an amount. The label is a name or a description — whatever will still mean something to you next year.

Giving early

Money given before Ramadan still counts for this year. Businessly detects the date and tags it EARLY, attributing it to the year it belongs to.

The year then shows Given so far (early) and, while you are ahead of the calculation, PAYING EARLY.

Knowing where you stand

The year header carries the running position:

• STILL TO GIVE — what remains
• {pct}% given — how far along you are
• gave {amount} extra or {amount} short once the year is settled

Editing

Edit giving corrects a mistake. The list is a record of what happened, so it is worth keeping accurate rather than approximate.

It starts empty every year

The giving list is one of the things that deliberately does not carry forward — Starts empty each year. Last year's recipients are last year's.

Giving stays open after freezing

Freezing a year locks the assets and rates, not the giving. You can keep recording what you give long after the calculation is settled — which is how it usually happens.
