Opening a year

Last year's structure comes forward so you are not starting from a blank page — but every value arrives marked for review, because nothing is true until you say so.

Your first time here says No Zakat year yet, with Open a year.

Which year

Which year? offers three:

The current yearAlready under way
Next yearStarts next Ramadan
Earlier year (pichlay saal)…Add a year you already paid — starts empty

An earlier year is for filling in from your old records — it Starts empty — enter it from your old records rather than copying anything.

Bringing last year forward

Once you have one year, opening the next carries its structure forward: Bring forward brings the same accounts, the same gold items, the same plots.

This is the design's whole point: you should never have to rebuild your list from scratch, and you should never be allowed to accidentally submit last year's numbers as this year's.

Reviewing a line

Open a category and go through it. Each line offers:

  • Confirm — the figure is still right
  • Change — enter this year's number

Confirming is a real action, not a default. A line you have not touched keeps its NEEDS REVIEW tag, and the year tells you how many are still waiting.

Things that do not copy

Some things are deliberately not carried forward. The giving list Starts empty each year — what you gave last year has nothing to do with this year, and anything marked NOT COPIED is telling you so on purpose.

The Zakat day

Each year has a Zakat day — the date your wealth is measured on. Everything in the worksheet is as it stood on that day, not as it stands today.

Deleting a year

Opened one by mistake? Delete this year removes it. Use it for genuine mistakes — a year you actually worked through is worth keeping even if the numbers were rough.
