Glossary

The words used throughout Businessly and throughout this guide.

Money words

Udhaar — goods taken on credit. What a customer owes you for things they have already taken away.

Lena — money you will receive. On Home this is You'll receive (lena) — everything your customers owe you.

Dena — money you will pay. On Home, You'll pay (dena) — what you owe your suppliers.

Qarz — a cash loan, as opposed to goods on credit. Handled in Loans, and it sits on the same balance as udhaar.

Zamin — a guarantor. Someone who stands behind another person's installment plan. See Installment plans.

Khata — your ledger. The book itself.

Things in the app

Balance — what one person owes you, or you owe them, right now. Green if they owe you, red if you owe them.

Advance — money paid beyond what was owed. It sits on the account and comes off the next sale.

Cash in hand — what should physically be in your drawer. See Cash book.

Recurring item — a template for something that repeats monthly: rent, a bill, a salary. It only becomes a real entry when you record a payment. See Bills & rent.

Float / company balance — the balance a network gives you for selling load, kept separate from your own cash. See Easy load.

Local-only business — a business that never leaves the device, even when you are signed in. See Multiple businesses.

Cancelled entry — one that has been undone. It stays visible with a line through it and stops counting. See Fixing a mistake.

Zakat words

Zakat day — the date your wealth is measured on. Everything in a year's worksheet is as it stood on that day.

Nisab — the threshold at which Zakat becomes due. Businessly does not apply nisab — that judgement is yours.

Frozen year — a year whose assets and rates have been locked. See Freezing a year.

Amendment — a change to a frozen year, which requires a note saying what changed.

Platform words

Wide window — a window at least 900 pixels across. This, not the operating system, is what gives you the desktop layout. See The desktop layout.

Sync — keeping the same book in step across your devices. See Sync across devices.
