Take a payment
When a customer settles up — in full or in part — and what happens if they pay you too much.
A payment reduces what someone owes you and adds to your cash. It is the other half of a sale.
From the customer's page
The most natural way. Open the customer and tap Payment — the amount is already about them, so there is nothing to choose.
For a supplier the same button reads Pay supplier, because the money is going the other way.
From New entry
Tap New entry → Payment in, then pick the customer. Use this when you are recording several people's payments in a row.
Part payments
Enter whatever they actually handed over. The rest stays on their balance, and their statement shows the new figure straight away.
If they overpay
Pay more than they owe and Businessly keeps the extra as an advance on their account. Their balance goes the other way — you now owe them — and the next sale eats into it automatically.
Recording it for a different day
Like every other entry, payments have On date… next to Save. Use it when you are catching up on a few days at once.
Where the money goes
A payment is a cash entry with the customer's name attached. It appears in your cash book and on their statement — the two can never disagree, because they are the same entry seen from two directions.
