Rates & the calculation
One gold rate drives everything. The calculation is shown as a worked column, with the deduction editable in front of you so you can see what it does.
Setting your rates
Rates & settings holds the numbers that turn weights into rupees.
- Gold rate per tola or Gold rate per gram — set either, the other follows
- The jewellery deduction percentage
- The Zakat day the rates are taken on
Rates used records what was applied — Gold rate, Deduction used and Taken on — so a year you look at in five years' time can still explain itself.
The calculation
The calculation shows it as a worked column rather than a single figure:
Total assets
− Loans you took
= Zakat base
× 2.5%
= Zakat to giveZAKAT TO GIVE is the answer, tagged 2.5%, rounded up when you have chosen to round.
The deduction, in front of you
The jewellery deduction is editable on this page, not buried in settings. Change it and the total moves as you watch.
Rounding up
Businessly offers to round the final figure up — Give a little extra. It never rounds down.
Provisional until frozen
While assets are still open the page shows Not frozen yet, and the total is marked provisional. Lines you have not reviewed keep it that way.
Once your assets are settled, freeze the year — see Freezing a year.
Then give
Start giving takes you to the giving list, where you record what actually goes out. See Recording what you give.
